Behind every S7 candle is a genuinely hands-on process — not a factory line, not mass production, just small batches made carefully in Scotland. We get asked a lot what that actually looks like day to day, so here's an honest look behind the scenes.
It Starts with the Wax
Every batch begins with GMO-free soy wax, melted slowly and carefully to the right temperature. Soy wax is more temperamental than paraffin — it needs a gentler touch, precise temperatures, and patience. Rush it, and you risk poor scent throw or an uneven finish. This is the first place where hand-pouring genuinely makes a difference over mass production: we can feel and adjust as we go, rather than relying on a fixed factory setting.
Blending the Fragrance
Once the wax is at the right temperature, fragrance oil is measured and blended in by hand. Every scent — from Highland Mist to Scottish Wild Garden — has its own specific ratio, tested and adjusted over time to get the balance of top, heart and base notes just right. This is where a scent really comes to life, and it's also where small-batch making shines: we can tweak a blend between batches if something's not quite right, something a large-scale operation simply can't do easily.
The Pour
Each candle is poured by hand into its glass jar, one at a time. Wicks are set and centred manually, and every candle is left to cure slowly at room temperature — no rushing this part, since a fast cure can affect how evenly the candle burns later.
Curing and Quality Checks
Candles need time after pouring before they're ready — typically at least a couple of weeks — to let the wax and fragrance fully settle. During this time, we check for imperfections: uneven surfaces, wick placement, any frosting that needs attention. Anything that doesn't meet our standard doesn't go out.
Labelling and Packing
Once cured, each candle is labelled, boxed, and prepared for dispatch — still by hand, still checked individually rather than run through automated packing. It's slower than a factory process, but it means every candle that reaches you has actually been looked at by a real person before it leaves.
Why We Do It This Way
Hand-pouring in small batches costs more time than mass production — there's no way around that. But it means we can catch problems before they reach you, adjust scents based on real feedback, and keep genuine quality control over every single candle rather than trusting it to a machine. It's also, honestly, why we started S7 in the first place: we wanted to make things properly, not just quickly.
Every candle, wax melt, and reed diffuser is still made this way — hand-poured or hand-filled in Scotland, using GMO-free soy wax, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free ingredients.
